Overview

Epistemology is the study of how we know what we know. It examines the sources, limits, and validity of knowledge - whether gained through observation, reason, intuition, or testimony.

By examining how belief becomes justified truth, epistemology defines the boundaries between knowledge, opinion, and faith. It provides the framework by which science tests hypotheses, philosophy evaluates arguments, and worldviews interpret experience.

Epistemology does not prescribe what to believe; rather, it clarifies the methods by which belief can be reliably evaluated.
