Overview
Metaphysics is the branch of philosophy that studies the most fundamental structure of reality, including existence, causation, substance, identity, possibility, and levels of being that may lie within or beyond empirical verification.
Metaphysics has more than one subcategory, which include:
- Ontology (what exists) (discussed under Philosophy in Dr. Weyrich's System),
- Transcendent (non-empirical or non-observable causes or agents posited by various worldviews) (discussed under Philosophy in Dr. Weyrich's System),
- Apeiron (open set of potential categories beyond current knowledge), (discussed under Philosophy in Dr. Weyrich's System)
- Causation (First Cause / Sine Qua Non arguments), (discussed under Transcendent in Dr. Weyrich's System)
- Substance (First Substance / Protocosmic substrate) (discussed under Transcendent in Dr. Weyrich's System),
- Cosmology (nature of the universe as a whole) (discussed as Cosmos under Ontology in Dr. Weyrich's System),
- Philosophy of Mind (nature of agency, personhood, consciousness),
- Modality (possibility vs. necessity).
