Definition of Sympathomimetic:

Sympathomimetic agents (adrenergic agonists) stimulate the same neurotransmitter receptors as norepinepherine and epinepherine (noradrenaline and adrenaline), which are divided into several subtypes: alpha-1, alpha-2, beta-1, beta-2. Binding these receptors generally favors a sympathetic state. As a general rule, beta-2 agonists stimulate lung function, while beta-1 agonists stimulate heart function in order to support fight-or-flight [ORWJr].

They produce physiological effects resembling those caused by the activity or stimulation of the sympathetic nervous system [American=Heritage2007]
