Overview

Ketoacidosis is a life-threatening disorder that is associated with un-treated Type-I Diabetes, and is characterized by high levels of ketones (> 10 mmol/L) and acidic compounds in the blood [Bosworth2018, pg 11]

This is different from the controlled nutritional ketosis created by the ketogenic diet, in wich blood ketone levels are in the range 0.5 to 3.0 mmol/L [Bosworth2018, pg 11]
