Overview

Excessive carbohydrate consumption may lead to "insulin-fatigue" or "insulin-resistance" of the cellular insulin receptors responsible for the removal of excess glucose from the blood. This can lead to rising levels of insulin being produced by the pancreas as the body's natural compensatory mechanism. When this compensatory response is overwhelmed by continued excess consumption of carbohydrates, Diabetes Mellitus Type II (Insulin Resistance) results.
