Pathophysiology

Gastritis is often a consequence of overuse of antacids, which results in reduced stomach acidity (hypochlorhydria), which in turn reduces the physical barrier to infection.


Clinical Presentation

  • Epigastric pain.
  • Fever/Nausea/Vomiting.
  • Possible frequent stool.

Prognosis

If untreated, an ulcer may result.
