Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is an umbrella term for a number of different respiratory diseases that are characterized by decreased ability to inhale deeply (forced vital capacity, FVC) and exhale rapidly (forced expiratory volume in 1 second, FEV1).
